NBSC SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDES TRAINING ON GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION: TOOLS FOR TRANSFORMATIVE LEARNING
Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) strengthened its commitment to transformative and globally relevant education through the successful conduct of the training “Global Citizenship Education: Tools for Transformative Learning” held on November 25–26, 2025, at Dreams Golftel, San Miguel, Manolo Fortich.
Organized by the Community Extension Services Division (CESD), the training focused on equipping faculty under the Department of General Education Curriculum (DGEC) with the competencies needed to become a core pool of Global Citizenship Education (GCED) teachers. This initiative supports NBSC’s goal of mainstreaming GCED across its programs as part of a broader whole-school approach to internationalization and sustainable development.
The two-day activity provided participants with an immersive learning experience led by Dr. Rowena R. Hibanada, Director of the GCED Cooperation Centre-Philippines (GCC-PH) and Professor II at the Philippine Normal University (PNU). Dr. Hibanada guided the faculty through the foundational concepts of GCED, its transformative learning approaches, and practical classroom applications designed to nurture globally responsible, socially aware, and culturally sensitive learners.
Throughout the training, the DGEC faculty engaged in reflective discussions, collaborative workshops, and output presentations that highlighted their growing capacity to integrate GCED principles into instruction. Their outputs demonstrated strong potential for developing learning experiences that promote peace, sustainability, empathy, and active global citizenship among NBSC students.
CESD extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Christie Jean Villanueva-Ganiera, CESE, SUC President I, whose unwavering support made the training possible. Her leadership continues to inspire NBSC’s efforts to foster a learning environment aligned with global educational standards and the Sustainable Development Goals.
This training marks only the beginning of CESD’s sustained effort to institutionalize Global Citizenship Education in NBSC. With a newly trained pool of educators, the college is well-positioned to champion transformative learning that empowers students to engage meaningfully in both local and global communities.
